Midnight Alibi

Midnight Alibi

Every alibi is a clue.

A logic puzzle for people who like Sudoku and murder mysteries. Rebuild every suspect’s night, hour by hour, until only one of them could have been in the room when the victim died.

The case

Someone was killed tonight.

The board is a timeline. Each row is a suspect, each column is an hour, and each square is the room that suspect was in. Like Sudoku, every suspect visits every room exactly once, and no two suspects share a room in the same hour.

Each suspect gives one testimony, and forensics add a little evidence. The body was found in one room at the time of death, so whoever was there then is the killer.

On Hard and Expert, the killer’s testimony is a lie. You’re also hunting for the one statement that can’t be true.

How it plays

From testimony to accusation

Every case can be solved by logic alone: no guessing, and exactly one answer.

The Testimony tab: compare the suspects’ statements

Read the testimony

Each suspect makes one statement. Evidence cards add what forensics found.

The Board: place room symbols in the suspect timeline to reconstruct the crime

Fill the timeline

Place every suspect in a room for every hour. Pencil in hunches, undo freely, and ask for a hint when you’re stuck.

The accusation: the suspect your board places at the scene, and the question before you name them

Name the killer

Who was in the room at the time of death? Make your accusation and close the case.
