In short: You never need an account to play. An account exists only if Cloud Sync has been on, which it is by default after the tutorial, and you can delete it and all its data from inside the app at any time.
Delete in the app (fastest)
- Open Midnight Alibi and tap Open the casebook.
- Tap Menu at the top, then Settings.
- Under Cloud Sync, tap Delete cloud history and then tap it again to confirm.
This permanently deletes your Cloud Sync account (an anonymous identifier), every case record stored with it in our cloud database and your leaderboard entry. It takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
Request deletion by email
If you no longer have the app on Android, email Brandon@Zweifel.tech with the subject “Midnight Alibi data deletion” from the Google account you used with Google Play Games. We will delete your Cloud Sync account and data within 30 days and confirm by email.
On iPhone and iPad, Cloud Sync uses Game Center, which doesn’t share your name or email with us, so we can’t match an email to your data. Reinstall Midnight Alibi and make sure you’re signed in to the same Game Center account (iOS Settings → Game Center). Cloud Sync turns on after the tutorial, or you can turn it on in the app’s Settings. Then tap Delete cloud history as above.
What is deleted
- Your Cloud Sync account (an anonymous ID).
- Your synced case history: case numbers, difficulty, times, hints and mistakes.
- Your synced statistics summary.
- Your leaderboard profile (the name you chose, whether you’re shown or hidden, your looks and your time-zone offset) and the server’s working copy of your history, which it uses to build your entry.
- Your leaderboard entry, which is the public row with your detective name, rank, points, case statistics and looks. The entry is deleted at once, and the leaderboards stop showing it within 15 minutes.
What is kept
- Anonymous usage statistics are not linked to your account and are deleted automatically by Google Analytics after 14 months. You can stop them at any time in Settings → Usage data.
- Purchases are recorded by Google Play or the App Store rather than by us. Deleting your data doesn’t remove a purchase, and Restore purchase in the app still works.
- Data on your phone or tablet stays until you clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app (on iPhone and iPad, delete the app).
